DAY1: ACCRA

Arrival  in Accra and pick up to hotel your hotel.  A brief discussion of Itinerary after check-in if convenient.

Day2: Accra City Tour - Cape Coast- Elmina

Your first full day in Ghana, after a sumptuous breakfast at your hotel, we set off for the tour of Accra and vicinity, passing through the economic and administrative districts.

Visit Makorla Market and experience open negotiation mostly done by women in the biggest market in the heart of the capital.

•Independence Square where you will see the enclosed flame of African liberation, which was lit by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in 1961.

Nkrumah Memorial Park, final resting place of Ghana’s first president. Set in attractive gardens, there is an adjoining museum, which contains photos, artifacts, and insight into Dr. Nkrumah’s life. Adjoining the park is the National cultural center, which is Ghana’s largest outdoor arts and crafts market selling traditional crafts from all over West Africa.

James Town—one of Accra’s most historic neighborhoods, where history resides on every corner. Best known for its lighthouses (the first of which was constructed in 1875 by the British) as a navigational aid for trading vessels sailing through the Gulf of Guinea. The original structure was ruined but a larger and more improved lighthouse completed in 1921 is still functioning today.

• You may visit “Brazil House” and learn about the seven Afro-Brazilians families who returned to settle in Ghana in 1836. Familiar Brazilian/Portuguese last names such as De Souza, Palmares, Azumah, Amorin, Da Costa, Santos, De Medeiros, and Olympio are abundant in this section of Accra.

. Accra Art Center – the biggest art, craft, and souvenir market in Accra provide you with a variety of wood carvings, colorful Ghanaian beads, and kente cloths, ready-made African and Ghanaian dresses, and footwear, adinkra symbols souvenirs, and many other interesting items and gift shops. Drive to the Cape Coast to visit kakun national park.

Kakum Park: Kakum is one of Ghana’s most famous parks. Proceed to the canopy walk. Kakum is home to Africa’s only aerial walkway through the tree canopy, a 1000-foot-long and seven-bridge walkway with viewing platforms that reach heights of over 150 feet above the ground.

Drive to Elmina for an overnight stay.


DAY 3ELMINA – NZULEZU

In the morning after breakfast, drive to nzulezu to visit the stilt village, fort apolonia, Ankasa Forest Reserve, and Cape Three Point Lighthouse. Overnight stay in Benyin.

DAY 4: NZULEZU-CAPE COAST CASTLE.

Return to Cape coast and visit the cape coast  Castle. Visit cape coast castle -a world-renowned monument, get the history,  relics, and the feeling that came with transatlantic slave history. Drive to Elmina and spend the night.

 

DAY5: ELMINA – ASIN MANSO –KUMASI

Fish Habour. Do early morning fishing with local people at Elmina and drive to assin Manso slave trail, the burial site of two former slaves from the U.S. and Jamaica whose remains were re-interred in August 1998 during Ghana’s first Emancipation Day celebration. You will see the ‘Slave River’ where captured Africans were washed before being confined in the Slave Castles to await shipment to the Americas and the Caribbean.

MANHYIA PALACE. Arrive late afternoon and visit Manhyia Palace, official residence of Ashanti Kings (Asantehene) until 1974, now a museum containing treasured items relating to the Ashanti Kingdom.

DAY 6: KUMASI

Enjoy a drive through the city of Kumasi with monuments dedicated to the memory of the great Ashanti people.

BONWIRE KENTE WEAVING TEMPLE. Visit 3 craft villages of Ahwiaa, Ntonso, and Bonwire.

After breakfast, you will visit the 3 craft villages of the surrounding lush countryside of Kumasi.

. Bonwire will be our first craft village where we’ll see how the famous Kente cloth is handmade on looms in a time-honored tradition passed down through generations. See the Kente styles and the opportunity to make purchases.

Optional: We may pay a courtesy call to the chief of this community.

NTONSO ADINKRA VILLAGE. We will continue to the village of Ntonso where Artisans hand-stamp patterns on a cotton cloth to make Adinkra textiles. Black-on-Black and Black-on-Red Adinkra Cloth is worn for funerals and other solemn occasions; learn how the Black Dye is made in the village from the bark of trees and creates your own Adinkra sash to take home. You may also purchase large pieces of the Adinkra Cloth handmade in the village.

WOOD CARVING. We proceed to the woodcarving Village of Ahwiaa, known for the talented craftsmen who fashion royal stools, walking sticks, and Fertility Dolls from wood; with the opportunity to purchase hand-carved items of all kinds.

CENTRE FOR NATIONAL CULTURE. End the day  visit the National Cultural Center, which features the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum and various studios of the brass makers, potters

DAY7: KUMASI - KINTAMPO -BUABEN FIEMA -  LARABANGA-MOLE

BUABEN FIEMA MONKEYS. After breakfast, embark on a drive further north to Buaben Fiema. Enjoys the company of friendly monkey. Feed them with banana and peanut and become their friends. Depart to Kintampo.

KINTAMPO WATERFALL. visit Kintampo Falls to experience the cool invigorating atmosphere created by nature. Savor the breathtaking view of the cascading waterfall. Drive to m0le national park on the way, stop, and visit Larabanga mosque.

The Larabanga Mosque is a mosque built in the Sudanese architectural style in the village of Larabanga, Ghana. It is the oldest mosque in the country and one of the oldest in West Africa, and has been referred to as the "Mecca of West Africa". It has undergone restoration several times since it was founded in 1421.

 

DAY8: MOLE – TONGO HILLS AND TENGZUG – BOLGA

Mole National Park

After early breakfast, go on a safari tour in the mole park. Mole National Park is the largest national park in Ghana and provides the best wildlife experience in Ghana. This was the first national park to be established in Ghana and it covers an area of 4,912km².
Mole National Park has the widest range of wildlife in Ghana and is the only place in Ghana where you can experience elephants in the wild. In addition to the elephants, you will see antelope, bushbucks, monkeys, warthogs, baboons, and other smaller wildlife.

 

DAY 9: BOLGA – SIRIGU – TAMALE

 

Tongo Hills And Tengzug

The Tongo Hills, a rocky granite outcrop rising from the savannas of the Upper East Region of northern Ghana, is one of the most important cultural sites in West Africa. Located only sixteen kilometers from the regional capital, Bolgatanga, the hills are the sacral epicenter of the Talensi (Tale people) and an area of outstanding natural beauty and cultural richness, a reason enough to visit, but the village is also home to multiple shrines. The shrines draw people from across Ghana and neighboring countries who believe they have a sacred power to provide guidance and resolution of problems. Tengzug’s combination of natural beauty and cultural richness has resulted in it being short-listed for future consideration as a World Heritage Site by Unesco

SWOPA 

Sirigu Women's Organisation for Pottery and Arts (SWOPA) is an organization which was established by Melanie Kasise in the year 1997 to assist women of Sirigu. The organization started with 54 women and has expanded to 345 active women. These active women ply their work in basketry, weaving, pottery, and other crafts to the Sirigu area in the upper east region of Ghana. It is also a self-funded organization.

Sirigu Women's Organisation for Pottery and Arts (SWOPA) was honored with a communications award from the International Cooperation and Development Directorate-General of the European Commission (EU).

In Tamale visit the leather factory, check the shea butter processing center, and observe women using traditional tools to produce oil.

 

Day 10: TAMALE - HOHOE

After breakfast, embark on a long drive to Hohoe in the Volta region.

You may optionally visit Wli Waterfalls. It is divided into two sections with ice-cold water flowing from a height of about 80ft. On route to the waterfall, you will hike through the lush greenery of the Agumatsa Forest where you will cross the same river eleven times before reaching the breathtaking falls.

 

DAY 11: HOHOE

Do an early morning hiking on Mt Afadjato, the highest mountain in Ghana, and part of the Agumatsa Range which runs along the Ghana-Togo border. From the top, magnificent views of the surrounding communities, forests, mountains, deep valleys, and, in the distance, also of Lake Volta. Also, enjoy an eco-community walk and palwine tapping experience at LIati Wote.

 

DAY12: HOHOE - AKOSOMBO – KROBO ODUMASE - SOGAKOPE - ADA

AKOSOMBO DAM. After breakfast in the morning enjoy the scenic view of the Volta lake and Akosombo Dam. Continue with a picturesque drive to the cradle of hydroelectricity in Ghana, the famous Akosombo Hydro-electric Dam which is located within the Akosombo gorge, on the Volta River. The construction of the dam resulted in the flooding of the Volta River Basin which resulted in the creation of Lake Volta, the largest man-made lake in the world which covers about 3.6% of Ghana's total land area

KROBO BEADS. drive to Oumase krobo to visit bead factory and colorful african beads. Drive back to juapong and continue the journey to Ada through Sogakope.

VUME POTTERY. Make a stop at vume to have a hand -on experience of pottery making.

Continue to Ada which is made up of over 20 islands to see where the volta lake kisses the Sea.

 

DAY13: ADA

SCULPTURE MUSEUM. After breakfast, take a trip to Hwakpo, a community in Ada to visit the nkyikyim ancestral sculpture museum,

SONGOR SALT LAGOON. Drive to songor lagoon UNESCO biosphere reserve where salt is mined locally by women cooperative and see the Maggie tribute monument.

Drive back to ada foah to do agro-tour through the beachfront vegetable farms.

End the day with a community walk.

In the evening, sit and listen to local fairy tail around a bonfire and enjoy local drumming.

 

DAY 14:  ADA - ACCRA

Use the banana local boat to cruise on the biggest man Made lake Volta and meet some island communities folks. Visit the local sugar-cane Rhum distillery and the artisanal coconut oil processing by island women.
