Overview

Overview

South Luangwa National Park is in east Zambia’s Luangwa River valley. It’s known for its abundant wildlife. Inside the Mfuwe Gate entrance, the river is often crowded with hippos. The woodland savannah is home to hundreds of bird species. Trails from the park’s lodges wander past baobab trees, herds of elephants and rare Thornicroft’s giraffes. Spotlights are used to locate the leopard population after dark.

Itinerary

Day 1 – 4

This is South Luangwa where wildlife is in abundance. Upon your arrival at Mfuwe International Airport you are welcomed by the Dewclaw Eco Tours Clew for a transfer to Marula Lodge or Croc Valley Camp. It's less than an hour drive from Mfuwe to the camp right on the banks of the Luangwa River. This is one of the last rivers in Africa humans have not tempered with. On the drive to camp you are likely to see your first Bushbuck, Monkey or Baboon already. You will stay for 4 nights at Marula Lodge or Croc Valley Camp in a Luxury Safari Tent. You have 2 game viewing activities (morning, afternoon or evening game drives, walking safaris) per day included. The very knowledgeable guides will bring you closer to nature during your stay. South Luangwa is well known for its Leopards and spending several nights here makes it very likely to see lions, leopards and even wild dogs. This area is great for birding too. Maybe the luck is with you and you are going to see a Pel's Fishing Owl.

Day 5 - 8

Nsefu is the area where you are going to be for the following 4 nights. Nsefu means Eland. This is the largest antelope species weighing up to 1000kg and very shy. By mid-morning you will have your transfer from Marula Lodge or Croc Valley Camp to Zikomo Safari Lodge. On the drive you will get a glimpse of what life in rural Zambia looks like. After a warm welcome at the lodge you will have your lunch served on the deck overlooking the Luangwa River. Later you will go on the evening game drive to see some of the nocturnal species, like owls and hyenas. You have 2 game viewing activities (morning, afternoon or evening game drive, walking safari) per day included.

Day 9

Full of great impressions and good memories from the last 8 days you will be transfered to Mfuwe Airport in time of your flight.
