Overview
For Mt. Kenya climbing trips, we offer camping in tents or in Bandas . When it comes to trips in the national parks and reserves, we partner with hotels and lodges that offer services from the budget range to the luxurious. Budget is something that is discussed ahead of travelling and the trip is planned and crafted around this. We also hire out mountain climbing gears at affordable cost.
The traverse climbing trip from Naromoru to Chogoria takes you from the leeward side to the windward side of the mountain.
Day 1 Naromoru Park Gate - Met Station
Start the journey from Nairobi at 6.30am to be in Naromoru at 9.30am.
If having spent the night at Naromoru, after breakfast we proceed to Naromoru Park Gate for registration and preparations.
Start hiking to Met Station where we will spend the night. Hike through the rainforest, past the dense bamboo forest to get to the camp after 3-4 hours. At the camp some of the animals that you can meet include buffaloes and monkeys and a host of birds. Dinner and overnight at the camp.
Day 2 Met Station - Mackinder’s Camp
We depart Met Station after breakfast and proceed walking through the Teleki Valley arriving Mackinder’s Camp (4200m) early evening. Packed lunch on the way. Dinner and overnight at the camp.
Day 3 Mackinder’s to Mintos then to Road Head
We wake up the next day at 3.00am to catch the sunrise at Point Lenana through Lewis Glacier on the summit getting to Pt. Lenana just before sunrise. Afterwards descend to the Mintos Camp for breakfast and then proceed downwards to Road head camp for the camping along the famous Gorges Valley and overnight stay.
Day 4 Road head - Meru Banda camp
This will be our shortest trek of the trip. Lazing around during breakfast, start the journey and leisurely walk down through the thicket and get to the camp for hot lunch and shower at the Banda as we prepare to leave the mountainous climatic region the next day. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5 Meru Banda- Chogoria Town - Nairobi
After breakfast, set on morning journey to Chogoria. 4WD vehicles are provided but during the bad weather, climbers have to walk some distance as vehicles may not reach the bandas. From Chogoria connect with your vehicle for next destination or journey back to Nairobi.
