DAY1: ACCRA – CAPE COAST

ACCOMMODATION:

James Town: In Accra, the capital of Ghana, locate the first settlement of this modern city and connect with the Ga tribe, see their lighthouse, the fishing harbor, and slave castles used during colonial administration, proceed to Kwame Nkrumah memorial park, and travel to Cape Coast. (you may trip to Kakum national park for a breathtaking experience of a canopy walk on this well conserve rainforest if you arrive on time in cape coast).

 

DAY2: CAPE COAST  -  ASANTI HOME – KUMASI

ACCOMMODATION:

Visit cape coast castle -a world-renowned monument, get the history,  relics, and the feeling that came with transatlantic slave history.  Travel to Kumasi (about 4.30hrs)

Explore the great Ashanti Kindom know for its powerful Ashanti king and rich cultural heritage. Visit Manhyia Palace of Ashanti kings,  Kejetia market which serves west Africa traders you can also check the Prempeh II Jubilee museum if time permits.

 

DAY3: KUMASI- EJISU  - BONWIRE - KUMASI

ACCOMMODATION:

Early morning trip to Mole National Park. On the way, visit boabeng fiema monkey sanctuary where indigenous culture strongly protects monkeys, continue to kintampo waterfalls, head thereafter to Larabanga Mosque-one of the oldest in West Africa and interact with natives.

 

DAY4: KUMASI-  LARABANGA - MOLE

ACCOMMODATION:

PLACES TO GO AND THINGS TO SEE / DO: Enroute, make stops at Kintampo waterfall, and continue to Larabanga Mosque-one of the oldest in West Africa, interacting with natives to understand their culture.

 

DAY5: MOLE -  TAMALE

Have early morning breakfast, do a safari at Mole park, 

At Tamale and visit the leather factory, check the shea butter processing center and observe women using traditional tools to produce oil.

 

DAY6: TAMALE -  SOKODE

Drive 4.30 hrs to Kara and process visas then drive 2hrs to Sokode and settle for the night’s fire dance unique to this region.

 

DAY7: SOKODE - KARA

DAY8: KARA - NATITINGOU

Travel to Natitingou.Visit Koutammakou, the land of the Batammariba is a cultural landscape designated in 2004 as UNESCO World Heritage Site in northern Togo. The area features traditional mud tower-houses that remain the preferred style of living. These mud-houses are known as national symbols in Togo. Many of the Mud-houses have two floors and some with a flat roof and also explore the identities of the Tamberma and the Somba ethnic groups known for their unique skills and sophistication of their architecture fortresses and tribal marks. Visit the Natitingo museum.

 

DAY9: NATITINGOU - TANEKA - DASSA

In the North of Benin, on the mountain range of the Atakora, there are the villages of the Taneka ethnicity, an ethnic group that has been created over the centuries by the encounter of the mix.

Forced coexistence in the same area gave rise to new villages where cultures rites and beliefs mingled, without conflict and friction, giving rise to a single people: the Taneka or the Tangba.

 

DAY10: DASSA - ABOMEY - COUTONU

At Dassa we visit the Fulani ethnic tribe to admire the interesting daily life of these nomads. Travel to the Kingdom of Abomey which presents enviable tribal and colonial slave history. Visit the Royal palace museum in Abomey. visit the underground cave which protected native from slave raids in Bohicon

 

DAY11: COUTONU - GANVIE - PORTO NOVO - OUIDAH

ACCOMMODATION:

Visit Ganvie the stilt settlement built on Lake Nokoe due to forced movement and escape from Amazon related to slavery. Travel to Porto Novo, visit the Ethnographic museum of Porto Novo. Visit the old mosque with Brasilian architecture built by some descendants of Brazilian slaves. Night at Ouidah.

 

DAY12:  OUIDAH - GRAND POPO - LOME

ACCOMMODATION:

Travel from Ouidah to Grand Popo. Trace the slave route in Ouidah and discover the door of no return. Visit the Python temple and Sacred Forest in Judah.

DAY13:  LOME - ADA FOAH

In Togo, see Asigame, the fetish market, and the independence square in Lome capital, relax and enjoy interesting beach life at Ghana – Togo Border. Cross the border to Ghana and drive to Ada Foah.

DAY14: ADA FOAH - ACCRA

At Ada Foah cruise on lake volta to visit the estuary, see fisher folks, and cross to an island community of Azizakpe to interacts with the indigenous women producing traditional hand made coconut oil. Visit Vume is a small town in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region near Sogakope. The residents of Vume are well known for the art of pottery. Head to Accra, Kotoka International Airport for departure with happy memories.
